First Kigali Debate League Competition ( Tournament #1)- February 2013

Today February 16th 2013 at King David Academy was The first debate competition . The tournament being the first one for the Idebate Rwanda and the students, it was a mixture of nervousness and excitement from the whole team in General.

The debate motion for that tournament was “ Rwanda should move to a middle income country by 2020”.

This debate motion was debated by the students on every round and they each had a policy and a plan on how to make the vision 2020 a reality and whether or not it’s feasible and doable. The debate competition was attended by 15 schools with a total of 18 teams in Advanced and 12 teams in beginners.

In Advanced, the finals was between Lycee de Kigali and King David Academy and in the beginners, the debate final was between Lycee de Kigali and Lycee Notre Dame de Citeaux. Both finals were won by Lycee de Kigali.
The guest of honor for this launching was the Minister of Youth and ICT, Honorable Jean Philbert Nsegimana. In his address to the participants, The minister urged students to perfect their debating skills and their thinking skills because these are important skills if they want to succeed in life.
The event was attended by approximately 200 students.
