On a beautiful morning we woke up and prepared our visit to James Madison University so eager to know what awaited us, we all waited for Jacob Bosley to come give us a ride. The journey to JMU was not that long because in just 2 hours we were in Harrisonburg. After freshening up, Mike Davis the Director of debate was there to give us a warm welcome and a ride to JMU. The fact that we were invited by the university president, we knew this was going to be a different visit from the others we have had in other universities. First after having lunch with the president and faculty, we headed off to talk at the president’s series. The presentation was really amazing because we got to share our stories and even after the talk everyone was really happy and this now opened doors to a whole new great and happy stay at JMU. The great reception and dinner we had in the evening ended up the beautiful evening in sparks and I remember everyone on the team saying I can’t wait for the next day.
The second day we visited the classes but seriously this was the most amazing experience we had. From the presentations, to Q&As and to dancing in class. I still recall the times we had to make everyone dance to the culture dance of Rwanda. The most interesting part was that most of the students were engaged which really was different from some schools that we have visited? The second day ended up with a great dinner with Mike and students on the debate team.
Our stay extended to the third day with visits to the Global politics, communication classes and the student success centre. The day was really great but then what made even better were the great evening dinner we had and the Reception with everyone from students to faculty. We danced to every move we could and I recall the whole experience of trying to let everyone dance.
Leaving JMU was a trying moment for us since everyone was so friendly and made us feel home away from home. They really treated us so nice that we still talk about the moments we had at JMU.
Thanks to Michael Davis, the Debaters, faculty and the president at JMU for making our stay tremendous.
LONG LIVE THE DUKES AND MAY GOD BLESS U.
