If I got a dollar for every dream I’ve had about Germany, I’d a billionaire. It’s the only thing I think about nowadays. It’s so hard not to fantasize about Germany when every single thing I’ve been hearing associated to the place is nothing but positive.
The day I came from school, picked up the phone and heard “Kassy, we got the six thousand!”, I knew for sure that my world wasn’t going to be the same again. Those words triggered so many pictures in my head; the countless meetings we attended talking about how to fundraise, the hundreds of Facebook pages on whose walls we posted, the 7 hours Bryan, Emma and I spent walking around town shopping for ingredients to use at our school’s fundraising bake sale, when I think of all these moments, tears surface in my eyes. Emma and Kitoko had spent sleepless nights searching for ways to make money; the schools had cancelled on us two days before the bake sale, leaving us in a dark pit of confusion. Germany seemed so far and unattainable, but that sentence made me feel the hot sun burning down on my face in the streets of Stuttgart, I could feel the electricity flowing through my body as I debated and defended the motion that was being discussed that day..Everything seemed so real.
After a well deserved celebration and the 10 minute bear hug my dad had fallen a victim to, I started to scream. I couldn’t believe it; God had done what I was sure he wouldn’t bother doing. After a heartfelt phone call with Jean Michel, I knew what was expected of us; to win and to win it big. Even though it was great to get the funds, the pressure that’s being applied to each one of us is nothing little. The donors didn’t give us six thousand dollars for nothing, they gave us this opportunity to go out there and show Germany and every other country representative in Stuttgart at that time what Rwanda is capable of doing! I can’t wait for the motions to come out we can get to work. But the work has already begun; visa application, signing that long code of conduct and last but not least finding the cutest pair of eyeglasses I can find to rock that Stuttgart sun!
