I can’t tell my feelings about judging at the World Schools Debating Championships 2016. In 2012, I started judging my first debates in high school competitions and in several organizations that were running debate in Kigali.
After iDebate Rwanda was started in 2012. I have had a chance to judge at every tournament in the Kigali Debate League and East Africa Debate League up to date. Since that time I have judged unbrokenly at least 7 debate rounds a month. I treat debate as entertainment, I also engaged in debate to help in creating a platform for students in Rwanda to engage in the art of public discourse about important issues that affect our society which will lead to sustainable development.
I have also been a Debate coach since 2014 where I have been coaching the World Schools format debating. It is amazing and super exciting that I will be judging more than 66 nations. This is the best dream I could ever dream of on a good night…
I and the rest of the team Rwanda are preparing day and night and raising money to make sure this one time opportunity is well exploited. Team Rwanda is going to win and get the trophy back home in the land of a thousand hills.
