Hey there! Ivan speaking, been a long time. A wise man once said that life is all about learning, experiences, and mistakes. I don’t know who this wise man was, but his statement couldn’t have been more true. Throughout the course of this competition, we have learnt so much, experienced so much and made many mistakes.
The variety of things I have learnt so far are numerous. For example, I’ve learnt that sleep is something I should value and hold on to dearly since you don’t get enough of it. I also learnt that I shouldn’t get on a train for purposes of ‘sightseeing’ because, one way or another, I will get lost. I further learnt that unless you burn it, Romanian money is indestructible, and among many other things, a not so complicated Montenegrin dance.
I experienced a lot of things too. The agony of getting lost on a hot day, when you’re tired and thirsty. The explosive taste of Mexican spices, the agony of getting up late and missing breakfast. Feeling lost while everyone else is speaking a different language. Or even tasting foods you had no idea even existed.
But what is most likely the most revealing part about the trip were the mistakes we made and the lessons we learnt from them. We had our losses and we had our wins. In the end what we realized is that no matter how many rounds we lost or won, the underlying lesson was just that: lessons. We’re better equipped with more knowledge than we came with. And as a wise rapper would say, we’ve had lessons on lessons on lessons.
